$25,000 to the American Red Cross to help with flood relief efforts in
Houston.
"Many of our associates and customers at our 14 Sears stores in the
Houston area are affected by the terrible flooding, and we felt strongly that
we wanted to do something locally to help our neighbors in need," said Steve
Kendziera, Sears district general manager. "Responding to the communities
where we live and work has always been a priority for Sears. This is clearly
the time to demonstrate Sears support for the people of Houston."
Sears is a national sponsor of the American Red Cross, donating $1 million
over five years to disaster relief services throughout the nation.
"The devastation is immense," said Dr. John Clizbe, vice president of
Disaster Service for the American Red Cross. "The dollars that have been
donated to the Red Cross are being used to help thousands of families
throughout the flood stricken area. Corporate donations like this from Sears
help extend the reach of our services."
Last year, Sears and its associates, along with The Sears-Roebuck
Foundation, contributed more than $44 million in funding and merchandise to a
variety of family-focused health, human service, education and other civic
organizations nationwide. In addition, Sears associates and their families
provided more than 375,000 hours of volunteer service for community projects
throughout the country.
