Sears Government Affairs

Decisions made by elected officials at all levels of government can have a tremendous effect on our ability to serve our customers and grow our business. In some instances, Sears engages in the debate on public policy to educate lawmakers about our business so they know the full impact of proposed laws before voting.

In some jurisdictions, Sears is engaged in the political campaign process to help elect candidates of both major political parties who support the retail industry and believe in the free enterprise system.

At the federal level, Sears administers a Political Action Committee (SearsPAC), funded entirely through voluntary personal contributions from Sears executive and administrative employees. SearsPAC is governed by a board made up of Sears associates and is operated in strict compliance with federal law and Federal Election Commission oversight and reporting requirements. SearsPAC contributions and disbursements can be found on the Federal Election Commission website.

At the state level, Sears makes contributions to candidates as well as contributes to state retail association PACs in a limited number of states where permitted under state law. Click here for a list of Sears' state contributions.
