Why did Sears create the Accounting Management Development Program? We wanted to provide for succession in the Sears Accounting and Finance arena – to build a career track for the people who will take on leadership roles in the future here at Sears.
What You'll Do At First
Your training program will be made up of several different components. First, you’ll get an overview of the various teams that make up accounts payable, inventory control, support accounting and field business accounting. You’ll get a broad view of all of our Accounting Center’s functions, and gain an understanding of the technical and leadership skills you’ll need for your future assignments.
You’ll also be assigned to various Accounting Center teams and team projects, applying your knowledge and abilities to develop a well-rounded set of functional, leadership and technical skills. You’ll work with a management mentor to help you stay on-track and to learn first-hand how to motivate associates and build business goals.
During your training program, you’ll also get an opportunity to spend time in rotations from the customer’s perspective. You’ll see a Sears store from the inside out, learning about sales management, operations, and the store support functions that are involved in running our stores. At the same time, you’ll also be able to apply our experiences from your Accounting Center rotations to see how the accounting portion of the organization fits into the bigger picture.
Throughout all of your rotations, you’ll gain the experience that will help you prepare for future leadership positions.
What You'll Do Later
After you successfully complete your training, you will move into a team management position, combining your technical and leadership skills to manage a team of associates. From there, you can leverage your capabilities and experience to pursue other managerial roles in accounting, finance and beyond.
